Random collected rants from my journey to live and work in Australia. Big whoop, wanna fight about it?

Gold Coast Redux

My trip to Gold Coast last week was everything I'd hoped for. I flew down Friday evening and got picked up by Blake and Ju. We went back to the nine-oh (James' flat) and had a few drinks with James, Eneti, Duncan, Cat and Peti (Eneti's sister).

Saturday night we (everyone mentioned plus Rina) had drinks at James', then went out to Surfers for dinner. The place we had in mind was full so we walked to a nearby Italian place which was BYO. Plenty of bottles of wine later, we headed to a couple of different bars then I went back to James' with a group of peeps. Me and Duncan stayed up drinking until the girls came back about 7am singing and dancing and absolutely off their chops. We stayed up with them until it was proper daylight outside then hit the hay. We had been taking MDMA but it wasn't that strong this time- just enough to have a smile on my dial the whole time.

I forget what days or order the next few things happened in, but I assure you they did happen:

- We went to Pacific Fair for shopping

- We went to Corey and Damo's place for dinner. Damo cooked us up a mad feed, what a champion!

- We snorkeled

- We drank

- We went to Byron Bay on a day trip for shopping/beach/chilling out

- We went to White Water World which is a new water park and a part of DreamWorld. It was much more fun than I thought it was going to be. A freak rainstorm cleared out half of the patrons in the afternoon so we got a few rides in without having to line up.

James was away from the Monday, traveling around the country selling people bullshit they don't need, so we had his place and car to ourselves which was very generous of him. Blake was around a fair bit and it was really good to see him again. He's still working at the sleep clinic so they have him on crazy hours stuffing tubes down peoples throats like a porn star.

Eneti was working all week but that didn't stop him from staying up with us and getting hammered on QLD beer every night. It was his last week working at the bank so he didn't really care but it didn't stop him complaining about it all the time. He's off to live with Pep for a couple of weeks, hurriedly saving up money for his trip to Switzerland where it sounds like he's going to become either a swiss watch maker or a frozen mummified corpse on the streets of Basel.

On Thursday we moped around then dropped Cat, Ju and Duncan off at the train station so they could catch their flight at Brisbane airport. A few hours later Blake dropped me off at Coolangatta and I flew back to Sydney.

I don't know how Cat, Ju and Duncan are getting along because I left my cellphone charger in GC and my phone's dead but hopefully they aren't. It will be interesting to see them find their footing in a foreign land, especially Duncan who I never thought would live outside of Christchurch. I will email them right after this post, actually. When they have a flat set up, I'll go down and see them in Melbourne and spew on their couch.
